One of the great things about first moving into a rental home is that everything is so clean. A quality landlord will see to it that, before move-in day, the kitchen, bathrooms, and every other room of the home has been thoroughly cleaned. However, after some time, the wear and tear of daily use will affect the rooms, so that even bathrooms— which gets cleaned regularly— would still need a good deep cleaning. To keep your Vestavia Hills rental home’s bathrooms sanitary and in great condition, you should do a few deep cleaning tasks. You should do them every few months to make sure your bathrooms are kept sparkling clean.
The likely areas that will need deep cleaning the most are your tub, shower, and showerhead. Every single one of these things must be deep cleaned regularly to remove residue buildup and water spots. A simple and easy method to clean any bathroom surface is by mixing a few drops of white vinegar with a cup of baking soda to make a paste. Spread the mixture over the tub or shower door and let it sit for an hour. This gives the mixture ample time to do its work. When the hour is over, wipe and rinse clean. For shower walls, try spraying them with an all-purpose cleaner and then turn the hot water on until the shower fills with steam. Close the shower door and let the cleaner sit for about twenty minutes, then wipe down with a wet sponge or cloth.
Vinegar works great on sinks and showerheads, too. To clean a sink with vinegar, simply take a small amount and pour it into the sink, scrub, and flush with hot water. To clean a showerhead with white vinegar, fill a bag with it and then place the bag over the showerhead. Make sure the entire fixture is immersed in the vinegar. It should be soaking in it. Secure it in place with a rubber band or twist-tie and let sit overnight, giving the vinegar enough time to break the dirt and grime down. The next morning, remove the bag and wipe the showerhead clean.
Another area of the bathroom that you should frequently deep clean is the toilet. Although there are many different toilet cleaners on the market, using baking soda to give your toilet a deep clean is still the most effective way to do it. Simply pour a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl and let sit for about five minutes. When the five minutes are up, brush thoroughly with a toilet brush. When you’re done scrubbing, flush the toilet and let the water rinse it clean.
If your rental home’s bathroom has tile, you should have the grout deep cleaned to avoid bacterial growth. Bleach and a grout brush are the best ways to lighten discolored grout lines and kill anything trying to grow between your tile. To really keep grout watertight and keep both moisture and bacteria out, it’s advised to reseal it every six months. Bleach can also be used to address any mold growing in windowsills or other areas. All you have to do is mix one part bleach to two parts water and scrub any mold spots with a sponge.
Deep cleaning a bathroom doesn’t need to take up a lot of time and effort, but it’s critical that you do it on a regular basis. Now that you know how to deep clean a bathroom the way the pros do it, it would be a whole lot easier to stay on top of this important maintenance task.
