It is such a pesky situation if you find that your Hoover rental house has a gnat problem. Even if gnats don’t bite or carry diseases, their presence is absolutely not welcome in a clean home. These pests are attracted to ripe fruit, trash bags, and even potting soil. It can be difficult to remove them once they appear from nowhere. But there are effective ways to keep these gnats away from your house for good.
Apple Cider Vinegar: One of the best ways to eliminate gnats without harsh chemicals is to use a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, and dish soap. The sugar attracts while the soap traps the gnats. Look for a place where gnats gather and leave this small bowl of the mixture there.
Fly Paper: The flypaper is an effective and low-cost way of getting rid of gnats. These sticky flypaper ribbons may not look attractive but they do a great job trapping these insects in your home.
Bleach the Drains: If you see quite a lot of gnats gathering around the sink drains, you may have drain flies. A good way to rid your drains and house of these pests is to pour a mixture of bleach and water into your drains. Soon, your sink will be gnat-free again.
Rotten Fruit: Since gnats like ripe fruit, having them in your house invites gnats as well. Having this knowledge about gnats, we can actually use this to our advantage. Place a piece of ripe or rotten fruit in a bowl and cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. With the use of a toothpick, poke a few small holes in the plastic. The flies then get inside the bowl using these small holes and are trapped. Once full, you can then remove the bowl from the house.
Wine Trap: If you have some expired wine handy, you can use it to trap pesky gnats the same way. Mix the wine and dish soap in a small bowl. Leave the mixture in the part of the house where there are plenty of gnats. The gnats get trapped in the wine solution, thus making it easy for you to remove them.
Bug Zapper: If you want an aggressive way of dealing with gnats, use a bug zapper device. Bug zappers come in different varieties but mostly use electricity to zap flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects. Just look for an out-of-the-way spot and plug the zapper in.
Chemical Spray: If all else fails and the gnat problem persists, you might just have to use insecticides. Both foggers and sprays can remove gnats without a problem but should be handled with caution. Always follow the manufacturer’s directions when using chemical insecticides.
With all these methods to eliminate gnats, one of these is bound to be suited for your pest problem. Are you interested in learning more about how to keep your rental house pest-free?
